Pelagic Partners’ Upcoming CSOV Nears Delivery Following Successful Launch

Pelagic Walu Limassol in Cochin Shipyard

Pelagic Partners have reached another important milestone in our pursuit of innovation and sustainability with the ceremonial launch of the Pelagic Walu, a Hybrid Electric Methanol-Ready Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV), at Cochin Shipyard Limited in India on October 18, 2025. The event marks a significant advancement for the offshore industry, as the vessel embodies the next generation of efficiency, environmental responsibility, and enhanced technician comfort.

The Pelagic Walu represents a practical step forward in the companies’ commitment to supporting the global energy transition. Designed to meet the demanding operational requirements of offshore commissioning and service, the vessel’s hybrid electric and methanol-ready design underscores Pelagic Partners’ focus on reducing carbon emissions while maintaining optimal performance and reliability. With its sturdy hull now completed, Pelagic Walu has entered the outfitting phase, bringing it closer to joining our fleet where it will support commissioning operations and service offshore platforms in challenging marine environments.

At the ceremony, Andre Groeneveld, Managing Director of Pelagic Wind Services, expressed gratitude and confidence, describing the launch as “a moment to turn the page of challenges and set sail toward success.” He continued, “This launch marks a practical step ahead with the CSOV half-complete, her hull is robust, and ready for the outfitting phase embodying the potential for reliable offshore service once realised. As owners, we are committed to adding her to our fleet, where she will support commissioning operations, servicing wind farms and platforms and deliver the efficiency we expect in harsh offshore environments.”

Pelagic Walu: Built for the Future

After its grand keel laying took place in December 2024, the recent launch of CSOV Pelagic Walu marks a significant leap forward in sustainable off-shore support. Measuring 93 meters in length and 19.6 meters in breadth, the vessel is purpose-built to support the commissioning, installation, and maintenance of offshore platforms in some of the world’s most challenging marine environments.

Pelagic Walu combines hybrid-electric propulsion, methanol-ready main engines, and large 2,800kWh lithium-ion battery systems to dramatically reduce fuel consumption and emissions during operations. These technologies enable flexible power management, lower noise, and improved efficiency, contributing to Pelagic Partners’ long-term vision of zero-emission vessel operations.

The Dynamic Positioning (DP2) system and motion-compensated walk-to-work gangway further enhance safety and operability, allowing offshore technicians to transfer securely and efficiently even in rough sea conditions.

What is a CSOV?

A Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) serves as the primary operational asset within the offshore industry during the commissioning and operational phases of platforms. These specialized vessels accommodate technicians with a stable, technologically advanced vessel for extended periods of offshore living and work, frequently spanning several weeks.

Featuring advanced dynamic positioning systems, motion-compensated walk-to-work gangways, and hotel-standard accommodations, CSOVs facilitate the continuation of turbine maintenance and service operations safely and efficiently, even amidst adverse weather conditions.

CSOVs are highly regarded as important and innovative pieces of the future of maritime, primarily in the energy shipping space due to their role in supporting offshore wind farms and platforms.

Pelagic Wind Fund – Pelagic Partners’ third compartment – will be fully financing the equity portion of the newbuild program of six CSOVs with a highly upgraded equipment package to be delivered from Cochin Shipyard starting from 2026 and added to Pelagic Partners’ growing fleet.
